LIEUTENANT GENERAL AJAY CHANDPURIA ASSUMES COMMAND OF VAJRA CORPS

Lieutenant General Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, took over as the General Officer Commanding of the prestigious Vajra Corps – The Defenders of Punjab. A distinguished alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, General Ajay Chandpuria was commissioned into 16th Battalion of The DOGRA Regiment on 09 June1990In his illustrious career spanning over 34 Years, the general officer has held severalkey Command, Staff and Instructional Appointments. His notable command assignments include command of an Infantry Battalion in Operation RHINO in the Eastern Theatre, Rashtriya Rifles Sector in Jammu & Kashmir and the prestigious Dagger Division deployed along the LC in the Kashmir Valley. His key staff appointments include tenures in DGMO, Infantry Division deployed along the LC & Headquarter Integrated Defence Services (IDS) wherein he was instrumental in setting up of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and the office of the CDS in Ministry of Defence, and restructuring of Headquarter IDS. He has also been an instructor and Assistant Adjutant at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and an instructor at Headquarter IMTRAT. The General Officer holds the distinction of being the first Defence Attache to Republic of Korea and has been conferred with several awards for gallantry as well as for distinguished service.Prior to assuming command of the Vajra Corps, Lieutenant General Ajay Chandpuria was holding the prestigious appointment of Commander Higher Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow wherein he contributed to shaping of the senior leadership of the three Services.On assuming command of the Vajra Corps, the General Officer paid homage to the bravehearts who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, in a sober wreath laying ceremony at the Vajra Shaurya Sthal. Speaking on the occasion, he exhorted all ranks of the Corps to continue maintaining a high level of operational readiness, factoring in the changing contours of warfare and contribute proactively to the org ideals and the process of Nation building.
